Work for Block 1, Friday, March 13

Hello class! Here is your work for today:

First, complete your calendar table project that was started last class. Follow the instructions below on the blog. Print and hand in both when done. If you were absent last class, please ask a neighbor for how to set up the table and pay close attention to the instructions.

There are SEVERAL students who owe me work. Check Aspen and work on outstanding assignments when done with your calendar. You cannot look for pictures (next assignment) unless you are caught up--- use today to get caught up, hand in anything that you complete.

Everyone who is caught up should create a new folder called Pictures. Find pictures online of things that you like, that depict “you”—interests, favorite foods, places to visit, sports teams, etc. Save each picture to the picture folder and name it appropriately. You should look for 25 pictures. JPG and PNG files are ideal, and bigger files are better than smaller ones.

If you have time after looking for the pictures, complete three timings and print out your Records Library.

Have a great weekend!

Calendar Table

Choose a month in 2015.

Open a new Word document. Change the page to landscape: Page Layout, Orientation, Landscape. Go to the Layout tab in Page Setup, center the table vertically.

Create a table to represent the month.
  • First row: Name of month 2015 (March 2015) Make this row large and color the background (merged).
  • Second row: Days of the week; center the text in the middle of the cell. Shade this row as well.
  • Other rows: Weeks in the month. The weeks must be the same size. Make this look like a real calendar. Insert numbers (days) in upper left hand corner.
  • Include five (5) entries and five (5) graphics. If shading a cell where a graphic will be placed, shade first, then insert graphic. You may find it easier to add text for events in text boxes.
  • Change the color and thickness of the border of the table.
To find holidays that take place in the month you chose, go to http://www.holidaysmart.com/.

Be sure the table is centered vertically and horizontally.

Now, choose another month and create a calendar for that one as well. You can use the first one as a template, but change the colors, entries, and graphics. Don't forget to update the days so they match the new month!

Print both in color. 40 points.
