Play Tab Activity

Think of a play and look up the main characters' names and who plays them (Google "cast of _______________"). You must have at least eight main characters.

Create a document that shows the title of the play, and then has the character's name and the person playing the character separated by a dot leader (just like the concession stand). If you do not find the actual name of a person playing the role, you can make up a name for that spot.

Set this document up just like the concession stand. THE ONLY DIFFERENCE IS THAT YOU ARE CHOOSING A RIGHT TAB INSTEAD OF DECIMAL TAB AND YOU ARE SETTING THE TAB STOP AT 6.5".

Format the document so there is double spacing in between entries.
Change the font and colors to look attractive.
Make sure the title of the play is larger than the rest of the text.
Add a graphic that has to do with the title of the play.
Add a page border.
Center vertically.

Save as: play

Concession Stand Tab Exercise

Tab Exercise

You were just given the task to create a price list for the concession stand that you will be working at for a fundraiser next weekend. Create a price list using the following items and prices. Make sure to follow the instructions below for setting up a tab with a leader.

Hot Dog- $2.00

Hamburger- $3.00

French Fries- $1.50

Bottled Water- $2.00

Gatorade- $2.00

Instructions:

To set up your list, key and center your title. A double space below the title, at the left margin, type “Hot Dog”. Then, click on the arrow in the lower right corner of the Paragraph Group and click on the Tabs button.

Since you are starting at one margin, you will set the Tab Stop at the other margin, so enter 6.25” for the tab stop.

Under Alignment, click on Decimal (this will align all the decimals so prices are easy to read).

Under Leader, click the Dot Leader (#2—this will put dots in the space between your tabs).

Make sure you click SET, then OK.

Hit tab, and you should have a line of dots take you to the right margin. Type the price. Hit enter and enter the rest of the data. Make sure you have a double space between all entries.

When you are done entering the data, choose an easy to read font and size to apply to the data. Make your title larger than the rest of the text.

Apply a page border and insert an appropriate Clip Art picture below your price list.

Center your list vertically and print.

Work for Block 1, Friday, March 13

Hello class! Here is your work for today:

First, complete your calendar table project that was started last class. Follow the instructions below on the blog. Print and hand in both when done. If you were absent last class, please ask a neighbor for how to set up the table and pay close attention to the instructions.

There are SEVERAL students who owe me work. Check Aspen and work on outstanding assignments when done with your calendar. You cannot look for pictures (next assignment) unless you are caught up--- use today to get caught up, hand in anything that you complete.

Everyone who is caught up should create a new folder called Pictures. Find pictures online of things that you like, that depict “you”—interests, favorite foods, places to visit, sports teams, etc. Save each picture to the picture folder and name it appropriately. You should look for 25 pictures. JPG and PNG files are ideal, and bigger files are better than smaller ones.

If you have time after looking for the pictures, complete three timings and print out your Records Library.

Have a great weekend!

To find holidays that take place in the month you chose, go to http://www.holidaysmart.com/.

Be sure the table is centered vertically and horizontally.

Export to MS Word. Save these file in your Word processing Folder: Immigration to America report; Immigration Works Cited.

Reminder: MLA requires only the author's name, page number. Look at the yellow side margin for the works cited entries. There is no year included in the internal citations. If there is no author, use the book/resource name. Refer to your style manual for the proper format.

Change Samuel Clemens to MLA Style

Open the "Samuel Clemens" unbound report (Pg. 70 in text). This document was formatted using the APA Style. It included a Cover (Title) Page and a Reference Page. Today we will reformat the document into the MLA Style. Refer to Page 4 in your Planner.

Save the document as Sam Clemens MLA in your Basic Formats folder.

No title page is submitted with MLA.  Delete this page. (Insert Ribbon, Cover Page, Remove Cover Page)

MLA uses a specific header. Open the header.  Put your cursor before the page number and key in your last name. There should be a space after your last name before the page number. Make sure you are using Times New Roman font.

Put your cursor on the first line (the beginning of the document). Enter the following...double spaced:

Your Name
My Name
Word Processing/Internet Basics
31 January 2014

Remove any excess spaces...the title "SAMUEL CLEMENS" begins a DS below the date.

Highlight "SAMUEL CLEMENS" Click the "Change Case" button on the Home ribbon...make Samuel Clemens initial caps.

Remove the bold from both main heading and sub heading.

Remove all the bold from the side headings. Number each side heading: MLA call these section headings:
1. The Adventures of Tom Sawyer
2. Adventures of Huckleberry Finn

Note the internal citations: In MLA, the year is not used. This can be deleted along with the , inside the quotes. Because the report cites two sources from the same author, the web title is required. However, the author's last name is not required.  Delete "Railton."  The citation only includes the web title.  Because it is a web site, there are no page numbers.

You have now updated the format to the MLA style. This is the format required by your English teachers. Always check with the teacher assigning the report regarding style and layout.

Works Cited:

APA uses "References" as it's title for the bibliography. MLA uses "Works Cited" as its title. Open the Internet. Go to easybib.com. Copy and paste (or re-key) the url for the first reference. If it doesn't find it, that means you have a typo. Check your accuracy.

Scroll down and fill in the blanks that are highlighted RED. (Author's name, date). Add additional citation.

Check the citations to be included in the Works Cited, Scroll down. Export as Word Document...YOU DO NOT HAVE TO REGISTER.

Enter your name in the footer. Save this in your Word Processing folder as Works Cited.

Print both report and works cited. Staple and submit.
